Designate staff to contact parents of affected students

Provide message to secretaries to respond to phone calls

Regularly update staff using key messages

Regularly update media using key strategies



Use caution when being “mic’ed” or “wired”

Stick to key messages

Remember your audience is parents!

Cite proactive steps being taken to keep students safe



Send letters home with affected students

Determine if counseling team needed for next day

Debrief crisis with key players

Share with media how crisis was handled, how future incidents will be prevented
